Victoria’s Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Peer Workforce Forum 2018

 

Over 80 people attended Victoria’s first Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Peer Workforce Forum 2018 on Thursday 14th June at Packer Park Pavilion in Carnegie.

 

Facilitated by the Self Help Addiction Resource Centre (SHARC), this forum was an opportunity for Peer Workers, the wider AOD sector and champions of the Peer Workforce to come together to co-learn, connect and celebrate. The forum included:

 

  • An official opening by Trevor Hunt Manager, Mental Health and Drugs Workforce, Health and Human Services Workforce, Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS).
  • Keynote speaker Graham Panther, an evaluator, researcher, and innovator of the peer space, owner of RedPanther Consultancy and co-founder of Big Feels Club presenting ‘Peer Work: an emerging discipline’.
  • Guest speakers from the AOD peer workforce around the state and a dynamic panel discussion including peer workers, organisational leaders and government.

 

The AOD Peer Workforce is recognised as an integral part of quality service delivery, resulting in many organisations formalising and integrating peer work into their service.

 

‘The forum revealed that we are on the path to having Peer Work recognized as valuable and credible across the sector, it was inspiring to see so many people in attendance and many organisations working towards developing more peer worker positions’, Matthew, Peer Worker.

 

The forum was supported by the Victorian AOD Peer Workforce Community of Practice and the Health and Human Services Workforce team at the Department of Health and Human Services, Victorian Government.
