Dr Paul MacCartney

Paul is a respected GP with more than 20 years’ experience. He specialises in mental health, medical care for the homeless, and drug and alcohol management.
In 2024 Paul was appointed as Victoria’s first Chief Addiction Medicine Advisor. He is the chief advisor on issues related to drug addiction, drug use and harm reduction and will provide expert advice to ensure Victoria is prepared to respond to threats such as Nitazines.
Paul qualified in 1997 from Monash University. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and a member of the Expert Advisory Committee on the potential misuse of drugs of dependence.
Paul is accredited to provide medication-assisted treatment for opioid dependency, including long-acting Buprenorphine injections.
