WRAD Health’s Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) Team is a small, passionate group of professionals dedicated to making a real difference in our community. We work in a supportive and dynamic environment and are seeking a skilled Triage Worker to join our team.

About the Role

The Triage Worker is the first point of contact for clients accessing WRAD Health’s AOD services. The role involves assessing needs, providing crisis responses, completing intake and assessment documentation, and ensuring effective referrals and follow-up support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with clients upon initial presentation, including those in crisis or at risk of harm.
  • Complete intake and consent documentation to a high standard.
  • Prepare assessments and referrals for the Step Thru Care program.
  • Conduct comprehensive AOD and mental health assessments.
  • Provide brief interventions or counselling where appropriate.
  • Enter client information accurately into databases (Redicase, Head2Health, Bridge).
  • Present client cases at allocation meetings and liaise with clinicians across services.
  • Monitor and report client risk to the Team Leader.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.

About You

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Alcohol & Other Drugs (tertiary qualification highly regarded).
  • Experience in AOD or mental health settings.
  • Skilled in completing comprehensive assessments and maintaining client records.
  • Confident with MS Office and client management systems.
  • Passionate about supporting people to make positive change.
  • Team-focused, reliable, and compassionate.
  • Current Police Check and Working with Children Check

Key Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Appropriate qualifications in AOD, Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Community Services, Mental Health, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people experiencing mental health issues and/or substance use concerns.
  • Competence in using brief interventions (e.g. Motivational Interviewing, CBT-informed strategies, psychoeducation).
  • Strong engagement and communication skills with individuals, families, and service providers.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and meet reporting requirements.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a primary care or multidisciplinary setting.
  • Familiarity with the Bridge CRM or similar electronic client management systems.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally safe practice.
  • Knowledge of local service networks in the Great South Coast region.
  • Current Driver’s License.
