The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs, offering withdrawal management, residential and non‑residential rehabilitation, counselling and harm reduction supports. About the role
As an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Practitioner, this is your opportunity to provide counselling, case management and evidence‑based interventions that improve the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and significant others experiencing alcohol and other drug‑related harms. This role assists in improving the health & wellbeing for individuals experiencing alcohol and drug related harm and works as part of a professional AOD team to deliver high‑quality treatment services.
Reporting to the Non‑Residential AOD Team Leader, this is a Max‑Term, Part‑Time (contracted for 12 months, 34.2 hours per week) onsite role, located in Bendigo, VIC.
How you will make an impact
- Deliver evidence‑based counselling and recovery‑focused interventions tailored to client needs and complexity, ensuring treatment aligns with AOD training and qualifications
- Provide case management support, develop collaborative treatment plans, and actively involve clients in their recovery journey
- Assist clients to access support services, build community connections, and advocate with service providers where required
- Maintain accurate client records, respond to referrals in a timely manner, and contribute to a collaborative team environment through meetings and shared problem‑solving
- Identify risks and service gaps, escalate concerns appropriately, and support the delivery of other NVAODS programs as needed

Key Selection Criteria
What you will bring
- A tertiary qualification in Social Work or a related discipline (minimum Diploma of Community Services)
- Demonstrated experience in AOD counselling, case management and delivering evidence‑based interventions
- An understanding of AOD treatment frameworks, family inclusive practice, confidentiality requirements, and TSA case management standards
- A current Victorian Driver’s Licence
- A current Victorian Working with Children Check
- A working knowledge of client record systems, documentation standards, and professional communication practices
- Willingness to complete: – AOD Skillset (within 12 months) – Forensic Fundamentals (within 3 months) – Family Violence foundational and risk assessment training (within 12 months)
