This presentation outlines innovative changes to AOD programs in Victoria’s correctional facilities, showcasing our sector’s adaptability in a changing world. Responding to feedback from incarcerated individuals, stakeholders, and program staff, we implemented a Stages of Change-based model to provide more targeted, flexible support. Our approach aims to reduce wait times, increase program availability, and enhance effectiveness by meeting individuals at their specific stage of change. We’ll discuss the evaluation of our current programs and detail proposed innovations for 2024/2025, including a more focused approach to pre-release support. By tailoring interventions to individual readiness and needs, we’re working to improve program outcomes and facilitate smoother community transitions. This project demonstrates how evidence-based, person-centred adaptations can address evolving challenges in correctional AOD support.
