Help guide the development of Practice Principles at the intersection of AOD and Family Violence

In line with the Royal Commission into Family Violence, the AOD sector and family violence sectors have been interacting and collaborating in a variety of ways and expressed a strong desire for a common language and practice principles where our work intersects.

VAADA will work with the AOD sector to develop high level principles of practice at the intersection of family violence and AOD treatment. In order to include diverse views and perspectives of sector representatives, VAADA will be organising a series of events, to explore the unique identity of AOD practice in relation to family violence practice and conclude in an agreed set of principles for our work in this shared space. VAADA has engaged 360EDGE to facilitate the first phase of the process, which consists of a literature scan of existing practice principles in both the AOD sector, the family violence sector as well as existing practice principles at the intersection of these sectors. Two facilitated consultations workshops, one with VAADA’s AOD family violence network and a second with senior management, will lead to the development of Version 1 of Guiding Practice Principles at the Intersection of AOD and Family Violence. In the second half of 2019 opportunities to refine the practice principles will be provided through ongoing consultations.

This workshop with CEO’s and managers will be the second event, building on discussions taken place in the AOD Family Violence Network. Throughout workshops on the day we will reflect on existing sets of principles in AOD frameworks as well as family violence frameworks and through discussions identify the unique identity of these sectors as well as negotiate intersecting principles.

Registration will be open from 9.30am. The workshop will start at 10am and run to 11.30am. Coffee, tea and morning tea will be available upon arrival.
