The engagement of families and significant others is a critical but often under-utilised aspect of AOD treatment. This presentation explores the challenges of integrating families or significant others into the treatment continuum, including stigma, resistance from clients, and families and a lack of resources. However, these challenges also present opportunities to improve long-term recovery outcomes by fostering supportive networks. We will discuss innovative approaches, such as family-inclusive practices and motivational interviewing, that can be used to overcome barriers and enhance treatment outcomes. In a rapidly changing world marked by evolving societal pressures, these strategies provide practical, scalable solutions to better support both individuals and their families.
