Key Selection Criteria

Eastern Health

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne's largest public health services. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services and have a proud history of serving a diverse community.

Our Employee Value Proposition is "Being a part of Eastern Health means belonging to a welcoming team of healthcare experts."

This statement aligns with our promise to our communities, patients, consumers and staff that we will be HEALTHIER TOGETHER. Bolder than a vision for the future, our promise calls us to action. We know that working together is the only way we can achieve what is necessary for a healthier future.

About the role

Turning Point works collaboratively to improve gambling, alcohol and other drug policy and practice, with the aim of maximising the health and wellbeing of people and communities living with and affected by gambling, alcohol and other drug-related harms. We are seeking an experienced shift supervisor who is passionate about leading a team in a growing and innovative environment and committed to delivering high-quality clinical services using a range of telephone and online platforms.

Turning Point's Telephone and Online Services program comprises a network of distance-based clinical services for the general community and health and welfare professionals. This includes programs in problem gambling, alcohol and co-morbidity. Services are delivered on a 24/7 basis from the Telephone and Online Services site.

The Shift Supervisor manages shift operations for Turning Point's 24/7 Telephone and Online Services, ensuring that day-to-day operations are well managed, that all counsellors respond promptly and effectively to incoming contacts, and that outbound calls are delivered to meet service targets.

The Shift Supervisor also holds responsibility for:

  • Providing clinical supervision, guidance and debriefing for counsellors
  • Monitoring quality of service delivery and service standards
  • Contributing to overall process and service improvement

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • A degree-level qualification in a relevant health and allied discipline, combined with experience in the alcohol and drug, gambling or related sector
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven experience in clinical supervision and debriefing
  • Proven experience in the coordination of service delivery and managing staff, including reporting on outcomes
  • Experience in exercising sound judgement and decision-making within a counselling setting in a supervisory capacity, including experience in assessing and managing risk
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of contemporary brief interventions in the alcohol, other drug and gambling fields or a related discipline
  • Experience evaluating service standards and counselling practice, including reviewing policy and procedure documents
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a leadership team, and to work under pressure while managing competing demands
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning
  • Capacity to effectively represent the organisation in internal and external forums
  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team

This position requires the capacity to work a variety of shifts across a 24/7 roster.

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation Handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role, and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
