Upskilling and collaboration in AOD services across Victoria: pilot program outcomes

Benzodiazepine-related harm remains a critical issue in Australia. Addressing this challenge requires equipping healthcare providers to manage benzodiazepine risks effectively. This presentation highlights a pilot program aimed at upskilling healthcare providers and strengthening treatment connections across Regional Victoria. Over 18 months, [Name omitted] facilitated education sessions, clinical training, and consultations with primary care and AOD clinics to improve benzodiazepine education and treatment linkage. We aimed to empower services to practice autonomously and to effectively navigate the unique challenges of benzodiazepines dependence. This presentation will cover actionable steps that AOD services can take to transform complex challenges into collaborative solutions across the sector. We discuss the measures we implemented to foster open dialogue with regional services and to adapt our approach to meet their needs.

He joined Reconnexion in 2017, now working as a Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Counsellor, supporting clients in stabilizing benzodiazepine use and managing underlying challenges through ACT, CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, and mindfulness techniques.
