Sign the Petition | VAADA joins chorus to retain VicHealth

The Victorian Government has received bad advice from the Silver Review recommending the abolition of VicHealth and the transfer of its functions into the Department of Health.

VicHealth is an institution with broad and deep relationships across the Victorian community, including with local governments, non-government organisations and directly with Victorians impacted by health inequities.

For 40 years, it has invested in important initiatives like smoking cessation and alcohol harm reduction that have allowed Australia to lead the way in health promotion. This work continues today. VAADA is proud to be a member of VicHealth’s Harmful Industries Roundtable.

In the same week Victoria launches its first comprehensive alcohol and other drugs strategy, VicHealth’s expertise, capability and trusted relationships are essential to driving stronger health promotion so all Victorians have the information they need about substance use.

VicHealth does not belong to the Victorian Government nor to any political party. It belongs to the people of Victoria. It needs to continue as a core part of our health promotion landscape.

VAADA urges its members, supporters and the community to be heard on this issue.
