Join Us as Our Clinical Director

Odyssey Victoria is on the lookout for a dynamic Clinical Director to provide strategic and clinical leadership for the delivery of our AOD services across OV.

As a member of our Practice Excellence team, you will be responsible for high-quality and evidence-based care, including oversight of nursing staff across all OV services.

We’re looking for a forward-thinker—someone who can spot opportunities, and help us grow in smart, sustainable ways. You’ll build strong relationships with government and sector partners, including mental health, family services and housing.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you will work alongside our Executive Manager – Community Programs, Executive Manager – Residential Programs, Executive Manager – Practice Excellence, Executive Manager – Development, People & Communications and Executive Manager – Finance to help shape OV’s strategic direction.

Duties include but are not limited to…

  • Supervise and support the professional development of nursing staff across OV services, including residential and non-residential, and within withdrawal, health, and outreach programs.
  • Develop, implement and support a nursing practice framework that supports high levels of nursing care across OV programs.
  • Ensure nursing staff are working within their scope of practice, and role.
  • Lead clinical strategy and service delivery across OV in alignment with its strategic goals and Victorian AOD program guidelines.
  • Provide expert clinical advice to executive leadership and contribute to policy development to better support client needs, especially for those facing the greatest barriers to service access.
  • Provide input into research, quality and clinical excellence projects and processes, and collaborate with consultant contractors, Universities, and other research bodies to review, introduce, enhance and maintain appropriate treatment models and processes.
  • Champion trauma-informed, culturally safe, and person-centred care across all clinical services.
  • Prioritise the work of the OV Executive team, contributing to, representing, and supporting decisions made.
  • Support OV’s senior management to ensure compliance with OV policies and practices.
  • Identify any emerging issues or critical incidents that may impact upon the growth, stability, reputation, stability, and sustainability of the relevant programs/work areas.
  • Establish and maintain relevant partnerships with government and other related sectors to better support our client’s needs, including mental health, family services, housing etc.
  • Foster a workplace culture where safe behaviour is encouraged and respected and improving the safety of the workplace is part of normal organisational practice. Regularly communicate and consult with relevant employees on OH&S issues.

Key Selection Criteria

We are seeking a strategic, results-driven leader to inspire and engage teams and stakeholders. To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Nursing registration and understanding of contemporary and relevant nursing practice.
  2. Demonstrated experience in senior clinical leadership roles within complex community health or AOD service systems.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of contemporary alcohol and other drug issues, including key policies, service types, harm reduction, and early intervention programs.
  4. Contemporary knowledge of best practice and experience with a broad range of residential and community based AOD programs, including Therapeutic Communities.
  5. Knowledge and understanding of co-occurring issues including mental health, family violence, and child & family support.
  6. A leadership style that embraces accountability, teamwork, and shared responsibility.
  7. High level communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to prepare written submissions and reports.
  8. Proven capability in stakeholder engagement and relationship building with the ability to liaise and communicate productively with a variety of people from all levels of service delivery across the allied health sector.
  9. Strong organisational and management skills, particularly in the areas of program and service development.
  10. Knowledge and understanding of relevant AOD research and evaluation.
  11. A commitment to the non-government sector including support for partnerships to support the needs of those facing the greatest barriers to service access within our community.
