ABOUT US

Gateway Health is a community health service providing health and welfare services to individuals, families and communities across Northeast Victoria and parts of Southern New South Wales. We are a not-for-profit Company limited by guarantee and a registered Community Health Service under the Health Services Act 1988 (Vic).

The organisation employs over 380 staff providing a range of primary health and community services across the Ovens Murray region in Northeast Victoria and parts of Southern New South Wales. Gateway Health serves all people and is committed to improving individual and population health outcomes. We do this by providing health care and support to individuals and communities in times of need, and by actively working with our partners to address the social and environmental determinants of health.

The Wangaratta Therapeutic Community (WTC) program, where this position is based, is a 30 bed AOD residential rehabilitation funded by the Department of Health which provides rehabilitation support to adults experiencing significant harm relating to their AOD use.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an AOD Clinician to join our team at the WTC. The model of care used in the program is the Therapeutic Community (TC) model where the community itself, through self-help and mutual support, is the principal means for promoting personal change. The full 12-month program offers group psychoeducation and group therapy, individual case management, individual counselling, and participation in site-based work, recreation and social activities.

The AOD Clinician provides treatment within the TC environment, taking on the combined functions and activities of group facilitator, case worker, and role model. The AOD Clinician guides individuals through a process of self-discovery and change, ensuring that every resident in the community obtains relevant individual and group counselling, and comprehensive biopsychosocial individual case management.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone who enjoys working within a busy team environment, who is passionate about supporting people to create change in their lives, and who is committed to their own self-development.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • A Certificate IV or Diploma in Alcohol and Other Drugs and a minimum of 12 months experience within the AOD Sector; or a tertiary/degree qualification in Health, Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health, or Community Services, and relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working therapeutically with people who experience issues relating to their use of alcohol and/or other drugs, and co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the alcohol and other drug sector, and residential rehabilitation services. At minimum a theoretical understanding of the application of the Therapeutic Community model.
  • The ability to take initiative and capacity to work independently, adapting to changing organisational needs.
