18% of Australians filled a mental-health prescription last year, 85% of which were prescribed by GPs. As such, there is a clear need for accessible information, for both GPs and clients, about the interactions between mental health medications and recreational drugs. QNADA’s Harm Reduction Resources were first developed in 2015 and have been updated in June of this year to keep information relevant to the changing landscape of current drug use and prescribing trends. These resources were created through an iterative consultation with a group of experts and provide general information about both the mental health medication and the drugs as well more specific information about their interactions and are designed to encourage dialogue between healthcare professionals and their patients about the potential implications of combining drugs. This presentation provides an overview of the project and summarises the drug interactions.
