About “Emotional Impact of Addiction”
When you find out that someone you love is addicted to prescription pills, ice, heroin, alcohol or any other drug, it can be absolutely overwhelming. In some ways it can feel like that person is replaced by a stranger who’s behaviours are impacting us in a variety of ways.
This session explores how Family Members can find themselves experiencing a range of emotions such as grief, guilt and shame, trauma, and over time ‘compassion fatigue’ when their loved one is caught up in a toxic relationship with addiction. Becoming aware of these states and practicing self care, can lead to much better outcomes for ourselves and our loved one.
