About “Emotional Impact of Addiction AND Recovery for Everyone”
When you find out that someone you love is addicted to prescription pills, ice, heroin, alcohol or any other drug, it can be absolutely overwhelming. In some ways it can feel like that person is replaced by a stranger who’s behaviours are impacting us in a variety of ways.
The first half of this session explores how Family Members can find themselves experiencing a range of emotions such as grief, guilt and shame, vicarious trauma, and over time ‘compassion fatigue’ when their loved one is caught up in a toxic relationship with addiction. The second half focuses on ‘recovery’, what this looks like for both the person using substances, and for families.
