The AOD & Family Violence (FV) sectors both have strengths and vulnerabilities when it comes to working effectively with men who use family violence. Whilst the Victorian AOD sector is now largely aligned to the MARAM framework, the FV sector has been more reserved about embracing the role AOD and mental health play in the perpetration of male FV.
Spurred on by the groundswell created by Jess Hill and Michael Slater’s ‘rethinking primary prevention’ paper; the FV sector’s ‘single driver’ response to male FV is now being challenged by several politicians, academics and policy makers, with alcohol now being publicly acknowledged as an accelerant and exacerbator.
This presentation explores how Family Life is incorporating learnings from the AOD sector’s conceptual understanding of ‘behaviour change’ into its new innovative pilot for men using FV called Talk4Change.
