We are thrilled to announce that registrations for our next Peer Facilitator Training are now open.

This 1-day training is specifically designed to upskill peer workers to develop and facilitate groups from a lived experience perspective within formalised settings. Specific training in group facilitation can be incredibly beneficial as delivering and developing peer support groups are often an integral part of peer work roles. This training will assist peer workers to be able to maintain the roles and responsibilities of a facilitator whilst also remaining a ‘peer’ in the group.

Eligibility: This training is free for AOD Peer Workers in state-funded services in Victoria.

When: Tuesday 31st March 2026 – 9:30am – 4:00pm,

Where: Face to face training, details of location to be sent once registered

SHARC’s Peer Facilitator Training aims for participants to:

  • Understand the fundamental concepts and values underpinning peer support, peer work and the Victorian AOD LEW
  • Identify and apply the important qualities, attributes and skills of a peer facilitator
  • Identify and apply the practice of maintaining boundaries in a peer support group
  • Explore different types of groups and approaches that can be adopted by peer facilitators
  • Explore what is important to consider in developing the framework for a peer support group
  • Identify and apply ways to address group issues whilst minimising power imbalances and maintaining group safety
  • Understand how to co-facilitate groups as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Explore the importance of on-going review processes that involve all stakeholders
