About the role

At The Salvation Army, we believe in the power of recovery, compassion, and second chances. We’re looking for an AOD Support Worker who shares our heart for helping others and wants to make a real impact in the lives of people on their journey toward healing and independence.

As an AOD Support Worker, you’ll be part of a dedicated team, walking alongside individuals overcoming alcohol and other drug dependency. You’ll provide practical assistance, emotional support, and structured guidance — helping participants build a healthier future, step by step.

Reporting to the Support Work Coordinator, this is a casual position (with multiple positions available), based at The Basin, VIC. This role requires flexibility to work across a rotating 24/7 roster (including sleepovers and night shifts).

Compensation is in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 4.

You will successfully

  • Supporting clients through daily routines, appointments, and group activities
  • Facilitating safe, structured, and compassionate engagement in our residential rehabilitation program
  • Conducting well being checks, drug and alcohol screening, and administering medication as needed
  • Providing crisis support, monitoring risk, and reporting accurately
  • Organising social activities that promote connection and self-worth
  • Working closely with team members to deliver holistic, trauma-informed care

You will have

  • A passion for supporting people from diverse backgrounds with complex needs
  • Qualifications in AOD, social work, community services, or a related field
  • Knowledge of the AOD sector and experience working in social services
  • A calm, resilient, and compassionate approach in challenging situations
  • The ability to build trust, empower clients, and promote independence
  • A current and valid Employee Working with Children's Check
  • A current Victorian Driver’s Licence
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equity, and the well being of all participants
