The Western Victorian Primary Health Network recently commissioned AOD Brief Intervention services in each of the four sub-regions (Ballarat, Warrnambool, Horsham and Geelong) with the expectation that a brief intervention service would fill an existing service gap in the AOD service environment. The aim of the Service Development Coordination Project is to provide coordination and support to assist the four commissioned Brief Intervention services to successfully integrate their models with a focus on engaging primary care, the non-treatment sector and developing local partnerships. The project encompasses a range of activities as follows:

  • Assist agencies to identify regional referral pathways and develop strategies to integrate their models within the already existing service environment. A key element of this is exploring and mapping stakeholders in order to then develop a deeper understanding of their needs and how to engage most effectively with them
  • To support agencies articulate their models, by engaging them in facilitated reflection on learnings and challenges, all undertaken through the lens of sound program design
  • To support agencies to capture both qualitative and quantitative data in a shared reporting framework
  • To coordinate and facilitate network events granting participants from all of the commissioned agencies a chance to explore learnings, opportunities and challenges as well as deepen knowledge and refine skills
  • To develop an understanding of workforce development needs of the commissioned agencies
