Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person
Do you know how to help someone that is feeling suicidal? Learn practical skills to improve your confidence in this half-day course.
The 4-hour Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person Course is based on our revised Mental Health First Aid Guidelines for Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviours. It is a stand-alone course that complements the 12-hour Standard MHFA course, Blended MHFA Courses and the 14-hour Youth MHFA course.
What the Course Covers
Curriculum content is based on expert consensus guidelines developed with the Delphi method using both professional and consumer experts from English speaking developed countries. You will learn:
- How to identify warning signs for suicide
- How to confidently support a person in crisis
- How to have a conversation with someone experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours
At the completion of the course you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to safely have a conversation with a suicidal person.
Who can attend a course
Any interested adult can attend. Please note that the MHFA for the Suicidal Person Course is not a post-vention course and is not recommended for individuals recently bereaved by suicide. The MHFA for the Suicidal Person Course is not a therapy or a support group and it is important that people undertaking the course are feeling relatively robust when they undertake it. Specific post-vention support services can be found at the beyondblue website.
The course complements the 12-hour Standard MHFA course, Blended MHFA Courses, the 14-hour Youth MHFA course and the 12-hour Older Person MHFA course.
