Job Description

Make a Real Difference | Be the Hope in the Healing

Why This Role Matters

At The Salvation Army, we don’t just treat addiction — we walk beside people as they take courageous steps toward healing. As one of Australia’s largest providers of Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services, we offer more than medical support — we offer dignity, compassion, and a chance to begin again.

At our Geelong Withdrawal Unit in Corio, we provide a safe, supportive space for individuals undergoing medically supervised withdrawal. Every shift is an opportunity to ease pain, restore hope, and remind someone of their worth.
About the Role

We’re looking for a Registered Nurse with not only clinical expertise but also the heart and strength to walk with people through some of their toughest moments.

You’ll work alongside a team of nurses, GPs, and AOD professionals who believe that everyone deserves the chance to recover — and the right to be treated with respect while doing so.

Reporting to the Nurse Team Leader, this is a permanent part-time position, 26.6 hours per week, based at Barwon AOD Services, Corio, VIC.
You Will Successfully:

  • Deliver compassionate, client-centred nursing care — including assessments, medication management, and immediate medical response
  • Empower clients with information about their treatment plan and engage them actively in their own recovery
  • Communicate clearly during handovers and collaborate with internal and external health professionals
  • Uphold dignity by maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming space, while always respecting confidentiality and boundaries
  • Accurately document clinical care and contribute to a culture of safety, respect and continuous improvement

What You’ll Bring

  • Current AHPRA registration (Div 1) and a relevant Nursing qualification
  • Certificate IV in AOD (or willingness to obtain within 12 months)
  • Experience in AOD services and confidence in managing challenging behaviours or dual diagnoses
  • A calm, clear, and empathetic communication style, especially in crisis situations
  • A strong sense of ethics, cultural sensitivity, and a genuine desire to uplift people from all walks of life
  • Proficiency with clinical documentation and digital systems
  • A current Employee Working with Children Check
  • A current and valid Driver’s Licence

Why You’ll Love Working With Us

When you join Salvos, you’re not just filling a position — you’re fulfilling a purpose. You’ll be part of a team that doesn’t give up on people and never forgets the power of compassion.
What We Offer

The Salvos offer eligible employees a well-balanced package of meaningful benefits, including:

  • Salary packaging up to $15,900 tax-free + $2,650 meal entertainment benefit
  • Generous Paid Parental leave for primary (12 weeks) & secondary carers, Purchased Leave Scheme (up to 8 weeks) and 5 days paid leave per year to experience working in other TSA programs or activities
  • Access to EAP and health & wellness initiatives, including Fitness Passport
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities that enhance on-the-job skills and proficiency
  • Rewarding and fulfilling purpose-driven careers that have positive and sustainable/social impacts

Conditions
Compensation is in accordance with the Enterprise Agreement – Geelong Withdrawal Unit.
