Job Description

This role is an ongoing VPS 5.2 level based in Melbourne.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership and management of the day to day operations of the Drug Court at Melbourne. Reporting to the Manager of the Drug Court, you will manage operational tasks and responsibilities consistent with program objectives, legislative requirements and current evidence informed best practice principles.

Further, the successful candidate will lead and supervise a multi-disciplinary team and have demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships.

About us

The Drug Court of Victoria (DCV) is a statutory division of the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria. The division provides an alternative sentencing option to offenders with drug and/or alcohol dependency who have committed offence/s whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol and/or to support their dependency.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager of the Drug Court of Victoria, the Drug Court Program Manager is responsible for the implementation and ongoing operational and strategic management of the Melbourne Drug Court. Key accountabilities include enhancing service delivery, recruitment, fiscal duties and engaging in negotiations with internal and external stakeholders and organisations.

The role will lead and manage a multidisciplinary staffing cohort and maintain oversight of the Melbourne Drug Court to ensure the Drug Court operates in line with best practice. The role will be responsible for the ongoing monitoring and implementation of processes and policies that reflect the most relevant and up to date research surrounding effective drug and alcohol intervention.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in social work, welfare, drug and alcohol and/or related fields
  • Extensive experience in a leadership/senior management role that includes clinical supervision of staff within a complex welfare, social work or governmental environment.
  • Experience managing offenders with drug and alcohol issues or managing a drug and alcohol service considered advantageous
  • Knowledge of the Victorian Justice system, solution focused courts and therapeutic jurisprudence is highly desirable
