This warm and friendly environment in the heart of the CBD (10 min walk from Flinders Street Station) gives you the opportunity to build an understanding and gain knowledge about this important facility recently opened in Melbourne and its contribution to saving lives.  Associate Professor Nico Clark will discuss the history of the development of MSIRs overseas and in Australia.  He will also outline the daily routine of the centre and key issues both in the run-up to its opening and in its actual operation.  The use of the room by users will be described, and the impact its opening has made on overdoses, fatalities and local health services.  Dr Clark will explain the users at highest risk of overdose, and mental health issues that increase risk.  The session will conclude with an opportunity to ask questions and make comments.
