Managing Aggressive and Challenging Behaviours

This workshop discusses and reviews the key factors that contribute to aggressive and challenging behaviours as well as providing a framework for de-escalation, assertive closure and self-care after an event.

Learning outcomes:

  • The biological, social, environmental, and psychological drivers that contribute to challenging behaviours
  • Understand the physiology of anger and aggression and what precipitating factors can cause an aggressive reaction
  • Become confident in effectively managing a range of challenging behaviours
  • Be proficient in de-escalation techniques such as DR LASSO along with assertive closure and what to avoid
  • Common client boundary breaches and response strategies
  • Understand best practice documentation techniques and self-care support channels
  • Appropriate strategies for responding and managing in the short and long-term
