VAADA Webinar: Addressing COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among people in Australia who regularly inject drugs

A 90-minute webinar hosted by VAADA, presented by Olivia Price and Professor Lisa Maher
It has been just over one year since the COVID-19 vaccine rollout commenced in Australia and over 95% of Australians aged 12 years and older are now fully vaccinated.
However, there are some less vocal, disadvantaged populations who still require targeted efforts to increase uptake.
This 90-minute webinar will highlight the importance of getting vaccinated for PWID, describe potential barriers to vaccination, and identify individual characteristics associated with vaccine hesitancy. Collectively, this data will be used to explore targeted interventions that AOD and other public health services could employ to maximise vaccine uptake and will conclude by considering broader implications for other public health interventions within disadvantaged populations.

Olivia has a background in microbiology and infectious disease epidemiology. Her primary research interests are prevention of infectious disease among key populations, including people who inject drugs, and harm reduction.
Professor Lisa Maher, Professor and Program Head and NHMRC Senior Research Fellow, Viral Hepatitis Epidemiology and Prevention Program, Kirby Institute, UNSW
With three decades of international experience in harm reduction and the prevention of infectious disease in key populations, Professor Maher has extensive expertise in public health research, surveillance, design and evaluation of interventions, and service delivery.
