This workshop will help to outline the critical next steps to building culturally safe workplaces for a criminalised peer workforce. We will showcase tools developed by the Living experience (LE) peer workforce to guide and support mainstream healthcare services to look at what cultural safety means.
Learning Objectives
1. Participants will learn how to assess their organisation’s readiness to implement culturally safe workspaces for LEPW using innovative peer-designed tools
2. Participants will learn how to implement organisational culture change processes to prepare for a culturally safe workplace for LE peers
3. Participants will learn how to identify and evaluate organisational progress in achieving meaningful involvement of LE peers to create safe workplaces
4. Engage in a process that strengthens understanding and solidarity between LE peer workers, their colleagues and organisations.

Christian Vega, Living Experience Workplace Integration Lead, Harm Reduction Victoria
Christian has worked with all HIV key populations over his 25+year career as a peer among Sex workers, People who use drugs, Migrants from high prevalence countries, and Gay men. Accomplished in Health Promotion, Harm Reduction & Peer Education, his expertise comes from a cultural understanding of his intersecting identities.
Amelia Berg, APSU and Fuse Initiatives Project Worker, Association of Participating Service Users
Amelia has worked in Harm Reduction for over 10 years. She worked in Needle and Syringe Programs & outreach to street-based communities of people who use and inject drugs. In 2020, she joined APSU as a peer project worker, working in partnership with HRVic on Fuse Initiatives.
